BK Knows Bigger is Better

by thetodaynews on Feb.25, 2010, under food

burger king xtIn case you didn’t know, we at TheTodayNews.com are a fan of big food. Giant burgers used to just be the domain of bars trying to make a name for themselves, but recently fast food restaurants have joined the fray.

The most recent entry in the fast food giant burger arena is Burger King’s Steakhouse XT burger, sporting a flame-broiled 7oz. patty (that’s almost a half-pound to you and me), which puts McDonalds puny 1/3 pound Black Angus burger to shame!

“Yeild” to Traffic

by thetodaynews on Feb.24, 2010, under etc.

I Before EAn astute reader of ours (I know, that surprised us too!) took this photograph of a misspelled “Yield” sign on a drop-off box at the Post Office in Willowick, Ohio.

Maybe the spelling guideline of “I before E, except after C …” should be added as a question on the post office Civil Service Exam?

Silent Bob Gets Loud

by thetodaynews on Feb.16, 2010, under entertainment

kevin-smithMovie director Kevin Smith, recognizable to most as the character “Silent Bob” from his movies, recently made a fuss when Southwest Airlines was unable to accommodate him in an airplane seat made for normal-sized person.

Perhaps Silent Bob would benefit from a “maximum passenger size” measurement rack, similar to the “maximum carry-on baggage size” rack at the ticket counter, so he would know when he is over the size limit.

Coincidentally, Mr. Smith’s outrage occurred just in time to promote the release of his latest movie, Cop Out.

An Inconvenient Super Bowl

by thetodaynews on Feb.08, 2010, under sports

super bowl 2010Super Bowl XLIV was the most-watched American television broadcast of all time, reeling in 106.5 million viewers. That topped the previous record holder, the series finale of M*A*S*H which had 105.97 million.

It was inevitable that M*A*S*H would eventually lose its record, considering the US population is now a lot larger than it was 25 years ago.

Another factor which helped set the record was the fact that the whole Eastern seaboard was snowed in, with nothing to do but watch TV. It was either watch the Super Bowl, or laugh at a DVD of Al Gore’s “An Inconvenient Truth”…

Monopoly 2010

by thetodaynews on Feb.05, 2010, under entertainment

Monopoly 2010The classic board game Monopoly will get a makeover for its 75th anniversary. The new version, called “Monopoly: Revolution Edition”, includes two major changes.

Besides the new shape of the round game board, the other major change of the game is the elimination of paper money and a banker, replacing them instead with an ATM and debit cards!

The handing over of your hard-earned money to your laughing kid-brother after landing on a hoteled Boardwalk was a core experience of the game. Replacing that with just a virtual transfer via the push of a button pretty much destroys the unique appeal of the game. Expect this once iconic brand to soon become a part of gaming mediocrity.
