New Studies on Wi-Fi Radiation Danger…It Aint Pretty!

We at TheTodayNews.com love gadgets and Wi-Fi. Instant internet access from wherever you happen to be standing (or, more likely, sitting) is the best thing since sliced bread!

That’s why we were quite alarmed when we read an article in the Feb 2010 issue of GQ Magazine detailing new studies concerning cell phone and Wi-Fi radiation danger.

We’re not just talking about growing a second head after 50 years of cellular use…the article cites immediate side effects such as heart arrhythmias, headaches and immediately quantifiable health decline.

“OK Go” Goes Again

The band OK Go is probably most famous for its previous hit video for “Here It Goes Again”, which featured the band dancing on treadmills in one continuous take.

Trying to outdo themselves, OK Go got equally creative with its new video “This Too Shall Pass”, which features a huge continuous Rube Goldberg Device (think of a line of falling dominoes but using a variety of contraptions instead of dominoes).

We Are El Mundo

Gloria Estefan, Ricky Martin, Shakira and other top Latin musicians joined together to sing “Somos El Mundo”, a Spanish version of “We Are The World”, to benefit Haiti relief efforts.

The geo-social makeup of the “Somos El Mundo” singers is much more fitting to promote Caribbean relief efforts than the hastily-assembled American ensemble. Because really, who grew up closer to Haiti: Ricky Martin & Shakira, or The Jonas Brothers & Miley Cyrus?

Notably missing from “Somos El Mundo” is a token Canadian actor. If you recall the original 1985 version of “We Are The World” featured Canadian Ghostbuster Dan Aykroyd in the back row of the chorus, and the 2010 version featured Vince Vaughn in the roll. (OK, Vaughn is actually from Minneapolis, but that’s pretty close to Canada…)

LeBron Changes Jersey Number….Cha-ching!

NBA star LeBron James has filed paperwork with the NBA requesting to change his jersey Number 23 to Number 6 next season, ostensibly to honor the NBA’s most famous #23 Michael Jordan.

Changing uniform numbers will no doubt help LeBron’s wallet as well by vaulting him back up to the top league jersey sales spot, similar to what happened when Kobe Bryant changed his jersey from #8 to #24 in 2006 and immediately went to the #1 NBA sales ranking in the world.

BK Knows Bigger is Better

In case you didn’t know, we at TheTodayNews.com are a fan of big food. Giant burgers used to just be the domain of bars trying to make a name for themselves, but recently fast food restaurants have joined the fray.

The most recent entry in the fast food giant burger arena is Burger King’s Steakhouse XT burger, sporting a flame-broiled 7oz. patty (that’s almost a half-pound to you and me), which puts McDonalds puny 1/3 pound Black Angus burger to shame!

An astute reader of ours (I know, that surprised us too!) took this photograph of a misspelled “Yield” sign on a drop-off box at the Post Office in Willowick, Ohio.

Maybe the spelling guideline of “I before E, except after C …” should be added as a question on the post office Civil Service Exam?

Avril goes Alanis with ‘Alice’

Pop star Avril Lavigne borrowed some flavor from fellow Canuck Alanis Morissette in her new music video “Alice”, the first single from the film soundtrack “Alice in Wonderland”.

The song’s style is a good evolution for Lavigne, a pop star who first gained popularity as a teen but is now trying to find a new niche for her fourth studio album, scheduled for release in June.

Shaun White laid down a Double McTwist 1260 during his victory lap round of the Men’s halfpipe at the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver.

A “Double McTwist 1260″….that sounds like the name of a giant milk shake!

Silent Bob Gets Loud

Movie director Kevin Smith, recognizable to most as the character “Silent Bob” from his movies, recently made a fuss when Southwest Airlines was unable to accommodate him in an airplane seat made for normal-sized person.

Perhaps Silent Bob would benefit from a “maximum passenger size” measurement rack, similar to the “maximum carry-on baggage size” rack at the ticket counter, so he would know when he is over the size limit.

Coincidentally, Mr. Smith’s outrage occurred just in time to promote the release of his latest movie, Cop Out.

Harry Potter Flies into Orlando

“The Wizarding World of Harry Potter” is about ready to open, with Wizards and Muggles alike eager to find out what is inside Universal Orlando’s newest theme park.

The official website offers some insights, noting several theme rides and familiar HP themed dining and shopping destinations such as “Three Broomsticks” restaurant and “Ollivanders” wand shop.
